The U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) has awarded Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems of Woburn, Mass., a $402 million contract modification to continue planning for maintenance and testing of the nationโ€™s defense shield, according to a July 31 release from the Defense Department.

The money will be used for โ€œsoftware maintenance, models and simulations, engineering support and Ballistic Missile Defense System test planning, execution and analysis for X-Band radars,โ€ the announcement said.

The modification increases the total value of the contract to $710 million. It runs through Oct. 2016.
