Satellite messaging services provider Orbcomm of Fort Lee, New Jersey, said Oct. 28 that it will supply 16,000 tracking and monitoring devices to a U.S. retailer with a large fleet of dry and refrigerated transportation assets. Orbcomm did not identify the customer by name, but said it is โ€œone of the nationโ€™s largest companies.โ€

The order calls for a mix of dual-mode GT 1100 devices for the customerโ€™s dry trailers and dual-mode RT 6000+ devices for refrigerated transportation assets.

Orbcomm expects to ship the majority of the order in the fourth quarter of this year, according to a press release.

โ€œSigning one of the nationโ€™s largest companies as a customer validates our ability to build and deliver high-performance [machine-to-machine] solutions that help our customers optimize their assets, drive down maintenance costs and increase their return on investment,โ€ Orbcomm Chief Executive Marc Eisenberg said. โ€œThis opportunity marks our largest GT 1100 order to date and sets the stage for future growth in the transportation & distribution industry.โ€
