Intelsat will provide satellite capacity for a new digital cable television distribution platform in India under an agreement with Jain TV Group’s Noida Software Technology Park Ltd. (NSTPL), a provider of satellite broadcast infrastructure in India, Intelsat said in a March 21 press release.
NSTPL has signed a multiyear lease for multiple C-band transponders aboard the Intelsat 902 satellite located at 62 degrees east longitude, Intelsat of Washington and Luxembourg said.
The satellite capacity will be used for a new programming distribution platform called Headend in the Sky, or HITS, the press release said.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“NSTPL is proud of its association with Intelsat and excited that our HITS platform will facilitate pan-India service beginning this September, signifying an important step in the transition to India’s national goal of full digitalization of television signals by 2014,” J.K. Jain, chairman of NSTPL and Jain TV Group, said in a prepared statement. “The platform will launch with more than 200 digital television channels and will expand to 350 by 2013.”
