An UP Aerospace SpaceLoft XL suborbital rocket launched May 4 from New Mexicoโ€™s Spaceport America carrying student experiments to the edge of space.

โ€œThe SL-4 performed flawlessly, reaching an altitude of 70 miles [112.6 kilometers] and speeds of 5.5 times the speed of sound,โ€ UP Aerospace President Jerry Larson said in a statement. โ€œAfter returning from space, the rocket landed within the target area in White Sands Missile Range. All in all, it looks to be a perfect flight.โ€

The launch was sponsored by the New Mexico Space Grant Consortium.
