Shutting down the government is always a consequential mistake and a preventable error. America needs an immediate bipartisan solution that reopens the government and avoids inflicting unnecessary damage to key government programs.
“Congress and President Trump must reach an agreement reopening the government as quickly as possible,” said Aerospace Industries Association President and CEO Eric K. Fanning. “This is no way to run a business or a government. Every minute the government is shut down negatively impacts our warfighters and taxpayers, and decreases industry’s ability to invest in the nation’s future.”
The aerospace and defense industry is essential to the American economy, employing 2.4 million people and demonstrating great capacity for creating high-skill, high-wage jobs. However, we can’t fully execute on our critical missions to enhance the flying public’s safety, sustain American leadership in space, and develop cutting-edge equipment to ensure the nation’s security at home and abroad, while the federal government is closed for business.
