Alliant Techsystems (ATK) Spacecraft Systems and Services of Beltsville, Md., shipped the platform for the ORS-1 reconnaissance satellite to prime contractor Goodrich ISR Systems of Danbury, Conn., for integration of its electro-optical and infrared imaging payload, ATK announced April 19.

ORS-1 is the first operational satellite being built by the U.S. Defense Departmentโ€™s Operationally Responsive Space Office. Built in response to an urgent need for reconnaissance data from U.S. Central Command, it is on an aggressive two-year development schedule and on pace to launch by the end of the year aboard a Minotaur rocket.

The satellite was shipped to Connecticut after completing environmental testing at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md., the release said.
