Politico reports that embattled mobile broadband startup LightSquared has a new weapon in its fight for survival: attorney Theodore Olson, best known for representing former President George W. Bush before the U.S. Supreme Court in the 2000 election dispute.
The move by LightSquared to retain Olson as well as another high-profile conservative lawyer, Eugene Scalia, may be a sign the company is preparing litigation against the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, which is blocking LightSquared’s effort to build a satellite-terrestrial wireless network because of concerns about GPS interference.
Olson said the LightSquared case is “an egregious example” of the federal government encouraging a company to make a large investment meet a national objective and then “pulling the rug out from under them capriciously and precipitously.”
