Longmont, Colo.-based DigitalGlobe will launch its WorldView-3 commercial Earth-imaging satellite aboard an Atlas 5 rocket ordered through Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services, the Denver-based Lockheed Martin subsidiary announced March 15.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The launch is scheduled for 2014 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

DigitalGlobeโ€™s rival GeoEye contracted with Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services last September for a late-2012 launch of its GeoEye-2 satellite aboard an Atlas 5.

The U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in August 2010 awarded DigitalGlobe and GeoEye a pair of EnhancedView contracts potentially worth $7.3 billion combined for imagery from the firmsโ€™ existing and planned satellites.
