According to a Bloomberg.com story, MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA), Canadaโ€™s leading space prime contractor and builder of the robotic Canadarm aboard the international space station, is contemplating a sale of all or part of the company.

This is in spite of what appears to be a denial on the part of MDA, which is included in the story.

โ€œThe company โ€˜continually evaluates strategic alternatives relating to its various businesses to increase shareholder value,โ€™ MacDonald Dettwiler said in a statement. There is nothing to disclose at this time and the company isnโ€™t considering a sale of all or part of its systems division, according to the statement. The systems division includes aerospace assets.โ€

A few years back, MDA had an agreement to sell its space division, which also is prime contractor and operator for Canadaโ€™s Radarsat-1 and Radarsat-2 radar-imaging satellites, to Alliant Techsystems of the United States. That deal was nixed by the Canadian government.
