Siemens Austria said Dec. 2 it has been selected by the United Kingdom’s Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. to supply electrical equipment Surrey will use to test the 14 navigation payloads it is building for Europe’s Galileo timing and navigation satellite program.
Siemens said the 13 million euro contract it signed Nov. 26 at Surrey’s Guildford, U.K. headquarters is the biggest so far for the Vienna, Austria-based company’s space business unit.
Under the contact, Siemens will begin delivery in February of electrical ground support equipment that will be used to measure critical payload parameters, including the performance and stability of the navigation payloads atomic clocks.
Siemens said the equipment ordered is part of the overall Galileo contract the European Space Agency signed in January with Germany’s OHB Technology to lead development of the 14 satellites.
