Reuters reports that satellite news broadcasts into Egypt by the Qatar-based Al Jazeera television network have been restored amid the continuing turmoil in the North African country. The broadcasts, carried by Egyptian satellite operator Nilesat, were halted Feb. 1 as mass protests against the government of President Hosni Mubarak gained momentum.

     โ€œThe protest movement has been supportive of Al Jazeera and critical of the state media, which remains under the control of veteran Information Minister Anas el-Fiki.

In a meeting with Egyptian newspaper editors on Tuesday, [Egyptian] Vice President Omar Suleiman said non-Egyptian satellite channels had โ€œinsulted and belittled Egypt.โ€
