The California Space Authority, the nonprofit corporation whose mission was to promote the stateโ€™s space industry, is no more, according to the Pacific Coast Business Times. The groupโ€™s board of directors voted unanimously June 6 to dissolve the organization.

It was unclear what promoted the decision, but the group in March halted plans to open a space center in Santa Barbara near Vandenberg Air Force Base.

โ€œThe group said it had determined that the space center would have had to navigate Santa Barbara Countyโ€™s strict environmental review process, which would have added three to five years of hearings and approvals before construction could start.โ€
