China says a U.S. government report linking its military to cyber attacks on two U.S. Earth observation satellites is โuntrueโ and โhas ulterior motives,โ Reuters reported Oct. 31.
The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission said in the final draft of its annual report that China was suspected of hacking the Landsat 7 and Terra AM-1 satellites in 2007 and 2008 โbecause the techniques appear consistent with authoritative Chinese military writingsโ that advocate disabling an enemyโs satellite control facilities.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Oct. 31 that China โis also a victim of hacking attacks and will oppose any form of cyber crime, including hacking.โ He said the U.S. commission โhas always been viewing China with colored lenses.โ
