China says a U.S. government report linking its military to cyber attacks on two U.S. Earth observation satellites is โ€œuntrueโ€ and โ€œhas ulterior motives,โ€ Reuters reported Oct. 31.

The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission said in the final draft of its annual report that China was suspected of hacking the Landsat 7 and Terra AM-1 satellites in 2007 and 2008 โ€œbecause the techniques appear consistent with authoritative Chinese military writingsโ€ that advocate disabling an enemyโ€™s satellite control facilities.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Oct. 31 that China โ€œis also a victim of hacking attacks and will oppose any form of cyber crime, including hacking.โ€ He said the U.S. commission โ€œhas always been viewing China with colored lenses.โ€
