Lockheed Martin Space Systems said Oct. 19 it has successfully demonstrated the interface compatibility of the first Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) satelliteโ€™s dual Ultra High Frequency (UHF) communications payloads with ground user test terminals.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said the demonstration ensures that mobile users of the existing UHF Follow-On system will have a smooth transition to MUOS when the first satellites in the system are launched and handed over to the U.S. Navy in 2011.

โ€œThis successful satellite-to-terminal test demonstrates that MUOS will be able to service legacy communications users for many years to come, effectively extending the life of current UHF radios,โ€ Mark Pasquale, Lockheed Martinโ€™s UHF vice president, said in a press release.
