Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems of Tewksbury, Mass., was awarded a $13.7 million contract from the U.S. Navy to upgrade the Aegis weapons system on several cruisers and destroyers, according to an Aug. 5 Raytheon press release.
Under the Aegis modernization baseline contract, Raytheon will make improvements to the ships’ radio frequency generation systems and enable missile data to be downlinked for ballistic missile defense operations, the release said. The contract comes on the heels of a $59.2 million contract the company received for advance procurement of Aegis weapons system parts for two new Navy destroyers, the release said.
